  • Hopefully fixed a process in zone conquering that was often timing out causing delays in some battles ending.
  • Kudos to Chevalier Noir for an excellently formatted and detailed bug report that allowed me to fix a potential money cheat with some very old code.
  • What, what in the butt.

  • Recent lag would have been in a large way caused by the error that I previously apologized for. The servers have been rebooted to help clear any residual issues up and so overall the game should be running much more smoothly.
  • Fixed a bug that would occaisionally show a mail as being from Neveron Arms Sales, Inc.
  • Corrected the DOW check to properly bar level 4+ empires from declaring war on Noob Island.
  • Mech upgrades are no longer allowed in empires smaller than level 8.
  • Hopsefully fixed a performance related issue with rehiring people that was causing errors.
  • Player Help Admins: This is long overdue, but welcome to out Player Help Admins: ShadowMaster, Mattbuck and Koolaid. ShadowMaster and Mattbuck are working on help tickets, primarily answering basic questions and research issues so that I can more easily fix problems. Koolaid is heading up the Noob Faction, answering questions and keeping the repair bay stocked with basic parts.
  • The issue with viweing the mech readout pages also created a number of systemic database issues as a secondary effect (awesome!) which prevented the a number of processes from running. These included scrapping units en masse, skill downs, and wars ending. These processes are now playing catch up and everything should be finished within the next 30 minutes.
  • Recent faction wars that ended may have given a message mutliple times that cash was paid to an enemy faction for losing, however the money was actually only give once. A check ensures that the money is not given multiple times, though it does not stop the message from being sent multiple times.
  • Viewing Mechs: Fixed a grievous problem that no doubt prevented most if not all people from viewing their mech readout pages these past several days. I DEEPLY apologize for leaving people hanging for so long. I am not sure how the code was changed to be as it was, since I tested the code prior to posting the update about mechs in arenas, and had no issues. It is entirely possile I hit the backspace in error before saving the page one last time, as that would have been all it took to create the issue. Again I am sorry and I hope that I can make it up to people in these next couple weeks.

  • A link to the new faction mail page for empires in the Noob Faction has been added to the Comms tab.
  • Abandoned empires have been being deleted over the past couple weeks. Please be patient as I work through the queue.
  • Donations via Paypal E-Check: If you use an e-check to make a Paypal donation please open a Donation Related help ticket when the e-check clears. Paypal does not make it easy for me to track these transactions past a certain amount of time, so if your e-check takes more than a few days to clear it might get lost in the shuffle. Opening a ticket once it has cleared will help get your donation processed more quickly. Thanks!
  • Units enrolled in arenas that no longer exist will now auto-correct when you view their unit readout page. Some units were occaisionally getting stuck in "enrollment" and being made unusable.
  • Corrected a bug that was not allowing you to abandon an empire that had been paying surrender fees at one time.
  • FWARS that should have expired have been processed with proper penalties and protections in place. I'm sorry to those who were affected by this delay.
  • Corrected donation subscriptions created by credit card that were not using the newest bonus system. The bonuses were made up for at the second month, so no DP was lost in the long run, however people expecting to get the bonus the first month were being confused. Also updated the subscription reprocessing systems to properly give the 1 DP bonus for $5 subscriptions. Instead of getting 1 DP bonus at $5 and another 1 DP at $10 people were getting 0 DP at $5 and then 2 DP at $10. Again, correct in the long run but not what was expected.
  • The noob faction now has a new mail system that functions much the same as the public mail system. This will save an enormous amount of server load and database space and, most noticeably, when sending a faction mail in the noob faction you will no longer have the arduous wait for the mail to send as it will be more or less instant. Deleting noob faction mail is done from a button on the actual messages frame, and there is a seperate button to view it as it will no longer appear in the "Private Mail" section of the Comms page. Because they are no longer "private" mails you can not delete individual mails. Old faction mails will still remain in the Private Mail section until they are deleted or expire.

  • For some reason the zone conquering program was hung up and began working properly after I rebooted it. I'm not clear on what the problem was but I'm keeping an eye on it. Battles and zone conquering should be working properly now.
  • Restarted ABR which clearly wasn't working.

  • Trading out some old, broken battery backups for some new ones turned into a full on server maintenance day as updates were installed. I'm sorry for the unannounced and extended downtime today but our ISP was getting very antsy about some bad battery backups that were beeping and driving them crazy. One thing kind of led to another and what I thought would be a 20 minute downtime turned into a couple hours. Thanks for hanging in there. The good news is that our new battery backups should protect us against up to about 30 minutes of power outage, which is a huge improvement over the previous 5 - 10 minute protection we previously had.

  • Mech Reselling: It has become customary to funnel money into small empires through reselling donation mechs. This has enabled some people to get billions of dollars into very small empires in an improper manner. From now on you will still be able to sell eligible donation mechs to NASI, however market caps will apply. If the amount of money you receive would receive would exceed your caps, they will kick as usual.
  • Cleaned out a few years worth of income cap logs that were being kept unnecessarily. Instituted a cleanup plan for the table to ensure that doesn't happen again.
  • Donations: Doubled the amount of funds received per DP to $20 million.
  • Spent a bunch of time adding logging and updating some code on the mine program to ensure its working as intended and also give discovery and expiration messages in the right empires on your logins. The numerous times I ran the program also gave a jumpstart to reseeding lost mines. Most mines seeded gave a message notification, though some did not so you might have a new mine even though you didn't get a message. You will get a message in the future.
  • Removed all mines from the noob island.
  • Changed some code to ensure no new mines appear on the noob island.
  • Mines: Found and fixed a problem with the mines procedure that was adding far fewer new mines than it should to the game. Some people have spread the rumor that there were no new mines at all, which is untrue. The number was low enough that it could easily appear that way however.
